TYEE TO DELIVER FIRST SHIPSET OF 787 CARBON FIBER RODS AT END OF MONTH

PARIS AIR SHOW (June 18, 2007) — Tyee, a leading supplier of rods, struts and engineered tubular components for the aircraft and aerospace industries, announced today that it is scheduled to deliver its first shipset of fusalage interior support tie rods to Boeing’s IRC division. To support the program, estimated to be worth over $50 million U.S., Tyee doubled its machining capacity over the course of the last 10 months and developed two strategic partnerships on the program, HST aerospace for carbon fiber tubing, and Akro fireguard to provide engineering and test services. The contract award was announced at Farnborough last year.

The approach adopted by Tyee is reported to have the additional benefit of allowing designs to encompass a broader number of installations with the same parts, as compared to heavier metal parts that have to be customized to suite each specific load requirement in order to reduce weight. The result is fewer discrete parts, improved process optimization, less overall labor demand from more automated processes that create capacity and yet still deliver significant product improvements. The unique fabrication and assemblies processes developed for the 787 is seen by the company as a significant advancement and it fully expects that the approach will become the new industry standard in the coming decade.

A member of the McKechnie Aerospace Structures group, Tyee is headquartered in Everett, Washington. Tyee is a recognized leader in the design, test and manufacture of flight control rods, interior payload support tie rods, and aircraft engine load-bearing struts and braces for the aerospace industry. Known for innovation, the company’s experience in the development of structural support and flight control components, along with its extensive product and process qualifications, differentiate it from all competitors.
